What is a Special Enrollment Period?

A Special Enrollment Period is a time when you may be allowed to enroll in or change Medicare Advantage or Part D coverage because of a qualifying life event. Examples include moving, losing employer or union coverage, losing Medicaid, losing creditable drug coverage, or having a Medicare plan end its contract. The available options and deadlines depend on the event that caused the Special Enrollment Period.
